Pushing my protection agenda and policy for Blackhatters I thought I'd urge you to make an effort to protect your self and your property from the attacker which is Google.

Our best asset is being one step ahead of Google and not taking chances by believing they cant do that.

We've done this many times before, we said they cant manually review the SERPS, we said they cant take down private blogs networks and we said they cant penalize websites for building backlinks but yet here we are, in a situation where all the impossible things have become a reality.

So lets not say Google cant anymore, there is nothing wrong with being paranoid and careful in this industry.

Some will believe i'm scaremongering, and I agree that this is on that level, but sometimes we should be a little scared, fear is not a bad thing, fear stops you making the wrong decisions.

Lets just honestly imagine that Google will snoop in yours or your link seller's Gmail, will track IPs across WMT accounts, will use GA data to see where your traffic comes from and will use Chrome to identify you as well as blackhat communities you belong to.

Its a scary thought, right? So this is the time to get one step ahead of Google and begin protecting ourselves before they start gearing up and up-scaling their tracking of our activity.

An alternative to Chrome is obviously Firefox, however im not 100% sure we can trust a company who accepts money form Google. You can install lightbeam to see who is tracking you too https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lightbeam/. *EDIT* I was alerted to this privacy browser through twitter https://www.whitehatsec.com/aviator/

If anyone knows an alternative to Firefox which is very privacy focussed that would be good.

An Alternative to Google Analytics is an Open Source analytic software called Piwik http://piwik.org/ - You host the software yourself, so you are in control. And https://metrica.yandex.com/.

An Alternative to Gmailis to buy a domain and use that domain for email, then you control it yourself.

Alternative to Google Drive is mega.co.nz, created specifically to protect your files, it encrypts them and gives you a key, even mega.co themselves cant access the files.

An Alternative to Google DNS
is Use OpenDNS or an alternative:http://www.opendns.com/home/
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categor...t_DNS_services

A message to Blackhat Blogs, Forums and Communities

Going into 2014 this is all extremely important and I believe all Blackhat website and forums should also begin thinking about outlawing the use of gmail on registration and urge members not to browse their content using Chrome.

Hey,

https://www.whitehatsec.com/aviator/ MAC ONLY :(

I am using Opera but don't like it much...

Never liked GA and glad I have no sites with them anymore - Statcounter is what I'm on and love it.

Webmaster tools caught me out with one of my big sites and although they gave me a Manual slap they are still letting me rank well and earn via Adsense hehe - One step ahead of you G!

Notepad.cc for all my passwords and TODO list but I think I might try MEGA out.

Cheers man.

Good stuff Agent Blackhat. These guys are arseholes.
"Lets just honestly imagine that Google will snoop in yours or your link seller's Gmail" Yeah that happened to me & got another site fkd up.

I'd like to suggest an alternative to analytics beyond Piwik is http://clicky.com/. I've got both installed on a couple of sites & much prefer clicky. Piwik never shows accurate visitor location for me ( I'm In Aus) Spent too long configuring it, but appreciate that it's totally private data.

As for an alternative to gmail (how the hell can an seo use gmail?? My biggest mistake..) Why not Outlook.com. They claim not to read emails, although there is probably a stronger solution.

"there is nothing wrong with being paranoid and careful in this industry" Hell yeah. All passwords in an Excel file encrypted with True Crypt and stored on Dropbox ftw!

For browser's we have several options I guess, one is to use other providers but I'm starting to doubt the integrity of large corporations lols...

One alternative is Opera, or if you're accustomed to Chrome / Firefox, then Comodo Dragon (chrome based) / Comodo Ice Dragon (FireFox based) are good alternatives, I'm using this 2 so far and at least they are blocking many 3rd party cookies, trackers and 3rd party widgets.

For the even more paranoid, safe to say that is a virtue in this business, I guess TOR browser is a good alternative. It's a private browser designed with privacy in mind, I have not used this much, but will probably switch to this soon whenever I'm running accounts on projects.

Another thing would possibly be to use private proxies regularly, and connect proxies to profiles so you don't get banned on certain sites.

Damnit I just switched to Android from iPhone, damn you goooglleeeeee

Ghostery addon for Firefox is awesome too, it allows you to see and disable companies tracking you while you browser include Google. Also try httpseverywhere.

Nice tips, I also raised a discussion like this on WF 2 years ago and received mixed opinions. But still there are sellers sending their "private blog network" links even in pure text.
But I also agree that it's quite hard to avoid far reaching Google hands.

The Ghostery addon is revealing.  Could not agree more with your thoughts on Google.

I read an interesting article that showed how Matt Cutts had a personal vendetta against some site and there was good evidence to reveal that Google might be sniffing emails on GMAIL (to and recieved from) to detect suspicious activities like link sales.

Tor would be the obvious browser for the super paranoid. It's the browser that facilitates the dark web because it redirects your internet through a random selection of other Tor browsers all around the world. It would take a crack team of feds months to decipher your internet activity so Google wouldnt have a snowballs hope in hell!

here's a link if you want to go that route: https://www.torproject.org/

Personally though, I wont be giving up Firefox. They just have too many great plugins  ;D

I am humbly (but proud lol) to say I have never, EVER even considered Chrome, much less DL'd it - ug. If it's got the "G" name behind it, I run as fast as I can.

I made a note of one browser that I have never tried:
Code: [Select]
http://www.avantbrowser.com/
Currently a Firefox (long time) user and am just so used to it,  but am considering giving that one I mentioned a try. Anyone else ever hear of it, or better yet, try it? Reading about it, they say:

Quote
Designed to set in a Private Mode, Avant Browser does not keep web data in your computer. So anybody else sharing the same computer with you will not be able to see which sites and which pages you have visited and which files you have displayed during your private web browsing section.

I daresay I do like the sound of that.  ;)

One good browser if you like chrome is chromium (the original open source) for the chrome platform.
www.chromium.org
https://www.whitehatsec.com/aviator/ - I am seeing a windows download

Thanks for the heads up for the Yandex analytics. It is tough for me especially to get away with analytics as it is light years ahead of anything else. I am hoping there is some nice features with the Yandex analytics.

Yandex mail or Hushmail are nice alternatives to gmail. The offer a nice amount of storage for free or if you don't want to use webmail for you @yourdomain.com email addresses.
I wouldn't trust outlook either.

For skype another MC company, there is an add on called clownfish that allows you to encrypt your chat IM's.

Once you get those all set up call a priest, a shaman and a Buddhist monk and have them came over and "clean" your house.

thanks for the yandex metrica recomendation. I didn't know yandex had analytics or anything that was in english.

from my 1 day test, it looks like metrica owns piwik or clicky. I've used piwik in the past and it was... meh. Clicky takes forever to refresh if you go back more than a week.

fyi, the install command for Chromium on Ubuntu is "sudo apt-get install chromium-browser"

Great suggestions. I am working on setting up firewalls between clients I work for and am researching these alternatives now. Also read an interesting article about a woman that got super careful and the measures she took to guard her privacy.
