KEYWORD RESEARCH: 1 Tip & 1 Tool.

Hey everyone,

This thread is to share your best keyword research advice. So that you can help others conduct the most fundamental and critical task when it comes to SEO.

Please share that one single tip & tool that you think everyone should follow/use.

This is what I normally do:

• Generate a list of keyword ideas. I normally end up with approx 40k based on 3/4 keywords
• Use the Google keyword Tool to get exact searches
• Delete anything less than 100 exact searches
• Add these keywords into Majestic Keyword Checker
• Use VLookup in Excel
• Use the Keyword in URL and Anchor and Keyword in Domain and Anchor

Start with the ones that have high search volume but 0 in Keyword in URL and Anchor in Majestic


I get good results with this

Tool -- ubersuggest.org

Tip -- be sure to submit both the singular and plural version of your KW e.g "designer handbag" and "designer handbags". Add them all into a single column in Excel, then remove duplicates in order to get a more comprehensive list! Do this with all of your top KWs

I always generate a list of seed KWs first, and then I use tools to expand and filter those lists.

The tools I use the most are:

- Google's KWP
- SEO Powersuite
- Long Tail Pro
- Scrapebox KW scraper

Find an authority site in your niche, enter it in semrush, export all their keywords, scrape at level 1 with scrapebox, check competition with Moz and then go for the ones with the least competition + high searches

I forgot to put that one on my list.

Just like DJ said, running websites through SEMRush is a great way to generate KW lists.

IMHO it's one of the easiest ways to find good KWs since the tool is so fast.

Literally just copy/paste a website and then filter the results.

Besides the funny name, this one will generate a huge list if you want it to. Just enter your seed KW(s) and this thing literally "shits" KWs out until you click stop.

Look at the biggest people in XYZ niche who spend on adwords. Find the terms with the highest CPC that still have a search volume that you want. That is where the money is at.


If you are in a mature SEM category and you somehow find a magic keyword with 25% of the normal CPC and a huge search volume chances are that there isn't money in that keyword.

I am Using Keyword Revealer to find some cool keywords and check their Competition.. It was free some times ago but now they provide limited access... you have to pay to use it more.

The best website for keyword research is Ubersuggest. Your keyword should be low competitive. Also check keyword search volume. High search volume keywords are most effective.
